Our Advanced CanSkate session is an action-packed, fast-paced class designed for skaters who have already mastered basic forward and backward skating—whether through CanSkate stages or local minor hockey (HMHA)—and are ready to push their skills further.
This program bridges foundational learn-to-skate and advanced athletic development, focusing on the core footwork, power, and edge control needed for hockey, ringette, and figure skating.
Coaches run skaters through continuous, high-energy circuits designed to build power, agility, and control on the ice:
Power & Speed: Dynamic stride mechanics, acceleration, and crosscuts
Edge Work & Turns: Inside/outside edge control, 180°/360° turns, and fluid transitions
Agility & Balance: Stopping with precision, quick footwork drills, and core stability on the ice
To keep sessions safe and focused, Advanced CanSkate skaters require:
CSA-Approved Helmet (Mandatory)
Skates (Properly fitted with good ankle support)
Warm Gloves / Mittens
Hockey / Ringette Stick (Note: Sticks will typically remain safely on the side of the ice for the first 15 minutes while coaches focus purely on footwork and edge warm-ups)
